Certain grades of ammunition cause more damage to composite/ceramic body armor than steel body armor plates, but certain rounds, such as AR-15 rounds, can penetrate steel armor easier than ceramic body armor.
Ceramic Body Armor Plates
Because technology is constantly advancing to create better body armor, composite/ceramic body armor plates are more expensive than steel plates, even though they have very similar protection attributes. Spartan Armor Systems carries composite/ceramic body armor plates that are NIJ certified and are available in NIJ threat levels IIIA to IV.
Spartan Armor Systems Armis Level IIIA Hard Quad Curvature Plates will protect against handgun rounds, including 9 mm FMJ RN, .357 SIG FMJ FN JHP and .44 Mag SJHP. Our Level III Elaphros Body Armor Plates will defeat all handgun rounds, and also 7.62mm NATO FMJ (M80) rifle rounds. These proprietary plates are approximately half the weight of similar body armor plates. If you’re looking for upgraded level III protection, check out our Level III+ body armor options, which are independently tested to exceed NIJ Level III standards.
For the best protection on the market, take a look at our Multi Hit Rifle Level IV Ceramic Body Armor. Level IV ceramic body armor can defeat rounds up to 7.62 x 51, 5.56 x 45 (M855) light armor piercing rounds and .30 Caliber M2 armor-piercing bullets.
